1) What is the meaning of the Claddagh?

The legend of the Claddagh comes from the village of CLaddagh in County Galway and was designed initally as a wedding band in the early 16th century. At the center a heart, symblizing love; on the top a crown representing loyalty and the two hands holding the heart symbolizing friendship.

Worn on the right hand, crown turned inwards, your heart is open for love. Worn on the right hand, crown turned outward, shows a special commitment to someone. Worn on the left hand, crown outwards says- let our love and friendship reign forever- never to be separated.

The traditon of the woven cross is believed to have begun during a visit to a dying pagan chieftan. To illustrate the significance of the christian faith, she qiuckly wove the cross from the rushes on the floor. It is believed to bless and bring luck.
